Allantoin
Also known as: aluminum dihydroxy allantoinate, 5-ureidohydantoin, and glyoxyldiureide
A chemical compound with the formula C₄H₆N₄O₃. It is a diureide of glyoxylic acid. Allantoin is a major metabolic intermediate in most organisms including animals, plants, and bacteria. It is also an extract from the comfrey plant, which is native to temperate climates of Asia and Europe. It is reported to have potent healing and soothing properties, and for centuries comfrey leaves were used to help heal minor skin injuries and swelling.
