I was extremely excited for this product as it had some amazing ingredients listed within the details but upon receiving the only ingredients listed were: oatmeal flour (arena sativa), kaolin clay, lavender bud flour (lavendula angustafolia) cosmetic grade pumice, and iron oxide. That’s only half the ingredients listed and not even the ones I was most excited about. I contacted Bee Naturals letting them know of the problem a few days ago, and no response was given and the ingredients still remain unchanged. The product itself seems to work fine as a facial polish but I hope that the products details will change so that customers know exactly what they will be purchasing.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention so that we can update the website and I’m sorry you’re disappointed about the formula change. Here are my reasons for them to help put things in perspective. I’m also sorry for the delay in responding- it typically takes me 3-5 days to thoroughly address email inquiries, so I appreciate your patience.

      We’ve removed the following ingredients:

Spray dried honey (caused clumping of product because it absorbs moisture). I loved the idea, but it just didn’t work out, practically. Honey is very hygroscopic, much like sugar and salt and it gets clumpy and very sticky when exposed to environmental moisture.

Jojoba beads (micro-beads have been banned in many states due to environmental pollution) and while jojoba beads are technically biodegradable, it’s difficult to get certification from suppliers that theirs are indeed jojoba ester beads and not actually plastic micro-beads. These do NOT add to the skincare benefit of the product from a ingredient standpoint and only slightly to the exfoliation, so we decided to discontinue using them, as their long-term, environmental impact hasn’t yet been definitively established. https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/microbeads-cosmetics-gyres-plastics-pollution-makeup

Rose petal powder (there is only one major supplier of organic and it’s $39.00/lb: the non-organic has pesticide residue) It doesn’t add enough benefit to the overall product to use any longer without driving up the cost of the product to $25, at least. If this ingredient added major skincare benefit, it would be worth it, but it simply doesn’t. One example: Rosewater hydrosol in a facial freshener does provide enough of the ‘essence’ of rose oil to benefit the skin, but unfortunately, the dried petals do not unless they were used at an 80% or higher concentration, then mixed with rose water and used as a mask. (Actually, this is a great idea for our next mask product, stay tuned)

Propolis Powder: Some people are allergic to propolis, so it was decided that the risk isn’t worth the benefit. Propolis powder isn’t readily soluble in water, so the benefit isn’t released onto the skin. (another great idea in theory, that doesn’t deliver). We do continue to include it in our oral care products, since there is well documented benefit in dentistry. See this great article: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4083525/
The true exfoliating benefit is derived from the lavender and cosmetic grade pumice and to a smaller extent, oatmeal (which is very soothing, too), which is the goal and purpose of this product.https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4443635/

Bottom line: Sometimes, as is the case with this product, simpler is better and reduces the likelihood that a client will have an untoward reaction to one of the more ‘exotic’ ingredients or to experience a product failure due to clumping.

      Thank you, again!

I love the fact that I can mix this product with the Bee Naturals Foaming Face Wash and take care of two steps at once. I also like the fact that it’s not harsh, if I feel like I need extra ‘scrub’, then I can just add more. It does what the name says, polishes my face.
