A chemical compound with the formula C5H11NO2 and a type of betaine. It is a N-methylated amino acid that is naturally produced by our own bodies and can be found in many foods including beets, wheat bran, wheat germ, quinoa, and spinach. It is used as a humectant to improve hydration and an anti-irritant in cosmetics and is safe for all skin types.
